Myths Associated with Manali

Manali

According to the Hindu myths, the hill station of Manali is associated with the legendary figure Manu. Manu’s 7th incarnation or Vaivasvata found a tiny fish, which warned him of the devastating deluge on earth. Manu took care of the fish till it grew and acquired a huge shape. This fish is considered to be Lord Vishnu’s 1st Avatar who rescued Manu and 7 other sages from the flood in an ark. This ark was anchored on a hilly terrain, which later came to be known as Manali. This hill station is located at an elevation of approximately 2050 meter.
