Golden Temple, or most prominently known as Darbar Sahib or Temple of God, is historically & culturally the most significant place of worship by Sikhs all over the world. It is exquisitely built on a pool that is popularly known as “Amrit Kund” or the pool of nectar and is surrounded by a thin forest. Shining in the morning light, the gilded splendor of its paneling, big dome and small minarets, this temple is a fairy world palace to the devotees of the Sikh faith. As one enters the temple, an eternal peace, calmness & tranquility engulfs the mind & body. The first look at the pool gives a feeling that a reflection of all great people who sacrificed their lives in building this great monument and a marvel place of worship are showering their eternal blessings from the heaven.
Throughout the year, immense devotional pilgrimage visits this place to offer their obeisant prayers and make a wish. It is believed that Sikh Guru Arjan Sahib got its foundation laid by a Muslim saint Hazrat Mian Mir Ji of Lahore on 1st of December, 1588 after which this architecture represents a symbolic icon of a unique harmony between Hindus & Muslims. It is also quoted that this architecture has created an independent Sikh school of architecture in the history of art in India. The prominence & popularity of this place is attributed to the efficient management of the hard working people who are responsible for the upkeep & maintenance of his place making it a paradise. They have formed a committee which is known as “Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee” who is primarily responsible for all the religious events or developments that take place at the “Golden Temple”.
