Bangalore is the capital city of the state of Karnataka in India. Presently the official name of Bangalore is Bengaluru. This city is situated in the south eastern part of the state on the Deccan Plateau. Bangalore is popularly known as as the ''Silicon Valley of India”. This cosmopolitan city is one of the major IT hubs of India. The IT industry has flourished and prospered to a great extent in Bangalore. Some of the popular IT companies like Wipro, Infosys, Tata Elxsi, Accenture, IBM and others have set up their offices here. Due to the high tech industries, this city is often known as the ''Byte Basket'' of India.

A Brief History of Bangalore

Initially the city was under the Western Ganga Dynasty till the Cholas invaded it in 1024. Then Bangalore became a part of the Hoysala Empire. History of modern settlement in Bangalore can be traced back to 1537. Kempe Gowda I constructed a fort of mud brick and it came to be known as a province of Vijaynagara Empire. According to legends, King Veeraballa of Vijaynagara Empire founded the 'Benda Kalu Ooru' meaning 'a place of baked beans' in Karnataki which is the present city of Bangalore. Bangalore was under the colonial rule of the British when the government of England took political control over India. A huge number of migrants came to settle in Bangalore after the establishment of the Bangalore Cantonment.
