Museums in Delhi

National Museum

This museum preserves a wide collection of artifacts from the Mauryan Era. Wooden sculptures, terracotta works and bronze works are kept here. It also houses collections from Vijayanagara period. Tribal costumes and mural paintings can also been seen here.
The National Museum of Delhi remains open for visitors from 10 am to 5 pm from Tuesday to Sunday.

Nehru Museum

Nehru Museum

This museum can be visited at the Teen Murti Road in Delhi. The museum is itself housed in Teen Murti Bhavan, which happened to be the residential complex of Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India. Regularly light and sound show is arranged here based on the life of Nehru.
The Nehru Museum, Delhi remains open from 10 am to 5 pm from Tuesday to Sunday. No admission fee is charged to visit this museum.

International Dolls Museum

International Dolls' Museum

From 85 countries about 6,000 dolls have been brought in this museum. This museum is housed at Nehru House, located at Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg. Most of the dolls are collected from different provinces of India.
The International Dolls’ Museum is open from 10 am to 5.30 pm every week from Tuesday to Sunday.

Parks and Gardens to visit in Delhi

National Zoological Park

In 1959 the Delhi Zoo has been set up. This zoological park is located near Purana Qila. This zoo has been built occupying an area of 214 acres. About 2,000 or more species of animals are found here. Especially during winter, visitors throng this place.
The National Zoological Park remains open to visitors from 9 am to 7 pm during summer months and from 9.30 am to 5.30 pm in winter. It remains closed on Mondays.

Dhaula Kuan Complex

This tourist spot is located near Dhaula Kaun in Delhi. It is a nice location to go out with family. The garden has artificial lakes, waterfalls, a hanging bridge and a playground for children.

Rashtrapati Bhavan

Rashtrapati Bhavan

This building has been set up near the Parliament House. This building is the residential complex of the President of India. Rashtrapati Bhavan is built on an area of about 350 acres. There are 340 rooms in this building.
During the British rule in India, the English Viceroy resided in this building. This building was designed by Lutyens. The garden in the complex of this building is also magnificent. The Rashtrapati Bhavan opens its doors for common people to visit only during certain time of the year.

India Gate

It is a war memorial built to honor the unknown soldiers who sacrificed their life during the World War II. The memorial is about 42 meter high and is located near the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Amar Jawan Jyoti is the flame that is kept lighted at India Gate to honor the dead soldiers.

Memorials

There are a number of memorials that are dedicated to the national heroes of India. Locals and tourists in Delhi visit some of the memorials. These have been set up by Yamuna River. They are Shanti Vana, built for Jawaharlal Nehru, Raj Ghat built in memory of Mahatma Gandhi, Shakti Sthal, in memory of Indira Gandhi and Vir Bhumi dedicated to Rajiv Gandhi.

Appu Ghar is a very popular amusement park in India. There are a number of fun rides in this amusement park, like the Big Splash, Roller Coaster, Giant Wheel, Eerie Tunnel, Ice Boating, skiing, sledding and Dodgem Cars.

Jantar Mantar

It is built at the Connaught Place in Delhi. In 1724, the Jantar Mantar was constructed by Sawai Jai Singh, the Rajput ruler of Jaipur. In those days, the building was built as an observatory to study the movements of the celestial bodies.

Market Places in Delhi

Shopping in Delhi is a good pass time for the tourists. There are so many things that can be bought from the shops and market places in Delhi. Handicrafts, clothes, paintings, ironware, leather goods, jewelry, antiques and various mementos are sold here. The modern shopping malls to the exotic bazaars, all are packed with variety of merchandise for sell. The Sadar Bazaar, market at Ballimaran, Karol Bagh, Dariba Kalan and Greater Kailash are famous as shopping centers in Delhi. The Ansal Plaza is a renowned shopping mall in South Extension in Delhi. Chandni Chowk is a famous and bustling commercial hub of Delhi. Here one can find an array of products ranging from textiles to electronic goods. This market place was originally set up during the Mughal era and it was designed by Shah Jahan’s daughter called Jahanara Begum.

Delhi Haat is a paradise for shopping lovers. This place is mainly popular for selling of traditional handicrafts of India. This market area is opposite INA Market in Delhi. Here permanent shops have been set up. During different time of the year, the artisans come to Delhi Haat to exhibit their products.
