Kaziranga National Park is a jewel on the Indian map, a place which has preserved the wildlife from centuries, a place which is a habitat to most distinctive Flora ‘n’ Fauna, a title of the remarkable story of the conservation of a special animal “One-horned Rhinoceros”. Due to its significance, contributions & achievements in preserving the invaluable wildlife, Kaziranga has been inscribed in the World Heritage Site List 1985. The park is spread in a sprawling area of 429.93 sq. km. with an additional area of 429.40 sq. km. and is situated in two districts of Assam namely Golaghat and Nagaon. The widely spread grasslands and a suitable climate attribute this place to have the presence of distinct Flora ‘n’ Fauna.
The exact geographical location of this place is on the banks of river Brahamputra in the far North East of India, Assam. Being on the riverside, the large swamps & big & thick elephant grass make this place an ideal habitat for animals like Rhinoceros, Elephants, Indian Bison, Swamp Deer or Barasingha, Hog Deer, Sloth Bears, Tigers, Leopard Cats, Jungle Cats, Otters, Hog Badgers, Capped Langurs, Hoolock Gibbons, Wild Boar, Jackal, Wild Buffalo, Pythons, Monitor Lizards etc. Kaziranga is also a bird’s paradise and an ideal place for adventurers, photographers & wildlife enthusiasts.
Some of the prominent birds found in this part of the country are Oriental Honey Buzzard, Black-Shouldered Kite, Black Kite, Brahminy Kite, Pallas's Fishing Eagle, White Tailed Eagle, Grey-Headed Fishing Eagle, Himalayan Griffon, etc. During winter season, this place witnesses the visit of huge number of guests, migratory birds including Greylag Geese, Bar-Headed Geese, Ruddy Shelduck, Gadwall, Falcated Duck, Red-Crested Pochard and Northern Shoveller. The picturesque wetlands have an abundant cover of water lilies, water hyacinth and lotus. The vegetation that breaks the monotony of these grasslands is the large clumps of semi-evergreen forest.
