Ranthambore National Park is situated in Rajasthan’s Sawai Madhopur Distict. The average area covered by this national park is about 400 sq km. It was in 1957 that Ranthambore National Park came to be recognized as a wildlife sanctuary. Later in the year 1974, Project Tiger was associated with this park. Finally in 1981 this park was recognized as a national park from a wildlife sanctuary.



The Ranthambore National Park is one of the mostly visited tourist attractions in Rajasthan. It is situated by the two beautiful mountain ranges of Vindhya and Aravalli Hills. Sawai Madhopur is the nearest town to the Ranthambore National Park.

The Ranthambore National Park is a paradise for wild animals. The nature lovers and photographers from all parts of India and abroad visit this national park.

Ranthambore National Park is a haven to wild animals and birds. Different species of flora are also found in this national park of India. Some of the animal species found in Ranthambore National Park are tigers, leopards, jungle cats, sloth bears, Indian mole rats, Indian foxes, toddy cats, fivestriped palm squirrels, small Indian mongoose and many more.

The national park is also famous for the reptiles like rat snakes, Indian chameleon, North Indian flap shelled turtles, Indian pythons and more.

In Ranthambore National Park, about 272 species of birds have been recorded. This extended list of birds include the migratory and the resident birds of the national park. Some of the mostly seen birds at Ranthambore National Park in Rajasthan are hawks, moor hens, eagles, kites, kingfishers, herons and many more species. Padam Talao, Rajbagh Talao and Malik Talao are ideal locations for bird watching.

The Flora of Ranthambore National Park

It is mainly dry deciduous type of vegetation in Ranthambore National Park. One will get to see trees like banyan, babul, khair, kadam, dhok, babul, ber and several other trees.
